Sama – Royal Blue & Silver Thobe

A thobe in royal blue and silver, embroidered start to finish by one pair of hands. Sama means sky, and the colour earns it. Silver on royal blue instead of the red on white most people picture when they think of tatreez.

Work at this scale is measured in months rather than days, and that is most of what the piece costs. It comes from Palestinian Tatreez House, where each thobe is stitched from beginning to end by a Palestinian artisan.

Shoulder 42 cm, chest 110 cm, waist 118 cm, length 140 cm.

Dry clean it, or hand wash it cold and alone, and never wring it. Dry it flat and out of the sun, which fades thread faster than water ever will. Iron inside out, around the embroidery.
