Brown Leather Tote Bag with Hebron Script and Grapevine Tatreez

$95.00
Handmade in Palestine
Description

Brown leather, carrying the word Hebron in Arabic above a stitched grapevine. The pairing is not decoration borrowed from somewhere else. Hebron, al-Khalil, is Palestine's grape country, and its vineyards feed a long trade in fresh grapes, raisins and dibs, the dark grape molasses cooked down at the end of every season. The vine under the name is the thing the place is known for.

It comes from Turathuna, a Palestinian leather workshop where both the lettering and the vine are stitched by hand.

Wipe it with a soft dry cloth, feed the leather once or twice a year, and keep it out of standing water.
